Discover the agricultural and historical riches of the Protected Lands of the Saclay Plateau by bike!
A leisurely 25km walk, accessible to all, through woods, fields, ponds and farms. The countryside in Paris – a guaranteed change of scenery!
We plan to stop at several points of interest for food and drinks, and we'll also pass by three farms: Viltain Farm, Orsigny Farm, and Trou Salé Farm. A tasting break (cookies, fruit juices sold and produced by local farms, etc.) is also planned.
Accompaniment by a qualified cycling instructor guaranteeing everyone's safety on bikes. The Terre et Cité association will also be present to help you discover the remarkable agricultural and historical heritage of the plateau.
What is the Terre et Cité association?
It is a non-profit organization (under the French law of 1901) created in 2001 by farmers to preserve agricultural land and heritage. Through various actions, the organization brings farmers together, communities, associations, businesses and research institutes to address environmental and food-related challenges linked to agriculture.
Level : open to all those able to cover 25km in 3 hours by bike (mountain bike, gravel bike, electric mountain bike…).
Price : Price per person, for outings scheduled on the dates indicated.
Departure and return: Departure at 9:30 am from the Bièvres train station car park, return at 12:30 pm – it is possible to come by car, train, on foot or by bicycle.
Included:
- Cycling guidance, including mechanical assistance to repair the most common breakdowns if needed (punctures, broken chains, various adjustments, etc.), by a state-certified cycling instructor
- Heritage and historical guidance, by a guide from Terre et Cité
- a tasting (cookie, fruit juice)
- As an option, lunch in a restaurant in Bièvres offering local and organic dishes at the end of the outing.
Not included:
- bicycles and cycling equipment
What you need to bring:
- Bike in good condition, mountain bike or gravel type, capable of riding on dirt roads, with gears (even if the route is mostly flat, there is a bit of a climb at the beginning)
- Helmet (mandatory!)
- Can filled
- What you need to repair a puncture (inner tube suitable for your bike)
- A light backpack if necessary (cereal bars, a rain jacket in case of rain…)

A very interesting and well-organized outing – Terre et Cité's explanations of the history and heritage of the plateau were fascinating, and we discovered surprising and unusual spots so close to Paris!

A fantastic outing that combined a walk through forest and rural paths with the discovery of the Saclay plateau, its history, its venerable farms, the university and technology hub, and even the future Grand Paris Express line, all in the company of wonderful guides from Terre et Cité. To top it all off, the route runs alongside ponds and ditches where we spotted a little egret and a magnificent heron. Pure bliss!
